AWS’ victory lap: A cloud-computing legacy and next-level opportunities
Amazon Web Services Inc. not only leads the cloud-computing game, but it ranks at the top of the list for customer satisfaction. Why? The variety of services and support the cloud giant offers make it a popular choice in the enterprise, according to Keith Townsend, principal and founder of The CTO Advisor.
“AWS is keeping up with customers no matter where they’re at on the spectrum,” said Townsend (pictured), who was impressed with the progression of technology during the past few years. “This is the time where I can go to Valencia and not speak Spanish and just have my phone.”
Townsend spoke with theCUBE hosts Savannah Peterson and Paul Gillin at the recent AWS re:Invent conference, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how AWS is capitalizing on its leadership position in the public cloud market. (* Disclosure below.)
Low code to allow for increased productivity
Thanks to cloud service providers such as AWS, the low-code market is growing by 35% a year, according to Townsend. This allows users with all levels of experience to contribute to data tasks, instead of relying on a developer. Individuals with a variety of skill sets can work together on projects.
In fact, a company had three major outages last year and turned to AWS for support, Townsend explained. They modernized their application with AWS, reducing their costs by 60 to 70%.
Going forward, Townsend offers some next steps for AWS to further enhance its service in the enterprise.
“I think the next-level opportunity for AWS is to get to that analyst or that citizen developer … [including] being able to enable the end user to use a Lambda, use these data services to create new applications,” he said.
Customers need the support of hybrid cloud and hybrid infrastructure to see more progress in the industry. With the right tools and skills, they will be able to better manage solutions without the help of a middleman, Townsend concluded.
