The primary purpose of artificial intelligence is to help people become more creative, productive and ingenious.

Targeted at citizen and enterprise developers equally, Vector Search for MongoDB Atlas allows advanced data querying capabilities and comparisons through AI-powered algorithms.

“Do you focus on the buttoned-up enterprise developer in the bank, or do you focus on that hoodie-wearing developer in the dorm? And the good news is they’re essentially the same person,” said Andrew Davidson (pictured, left), senior vice president of products at MongoDB Inc. “Maybe the enterprise developer isn’t going to be using what the hoodie-wearing developer is building with right now, but they’re sure as heck going to be doing so in their hackathons. The key priority for us is to find out what’s the commonality — what’s the superset for both of those types of personas.”

Leaning on Google’s long-standing GenAI chops

With generative AI in the spotlight, there’s an industry race to build tools that leverage its capabilities to create value. Staying ahead of the curve, MongoDB has underpinned its Vector Search capability with Google Cloud Vertex AI, according to Orban.

“When customers want to ask MongoDB a question, they’re going to be able to have a chat bot-like experience on the website — that again has a lot of the Google Cloud Vertex AI capabilities underneath,” he explained. “I think one of the things that is also really helping this be a more approachable technology for developers is how Mongo’s also developing a way to take natural human language and translate that into MongoDB queries using some of our Vertex AI capabilities.”

Alongside Vector Search, MongoDB also announced the general availability of Relational Migrator, allowing legacy relational databases to be modernized with minimal resource undertaking, Davidson added.
