Sycomp tackles global data challenges with AI and cloud integration

In the ever-evolving landscape of supercomputing, new cross-field integrations, such as artificial intelligence, are forcing innovations across the stack — from storage to networking and compute.

The race to optimize data management and storage solutions has become a critical focus for organizations globally, and Sycomp, A Technology Company Inc. is rising to the challenge, according to John Zawistowski (pictured, right), global systems solutions executive at Sycomp.

“We’re a global organization; we’re actually in 46 countries,” he said. “We ship hardware [and] software [and] run services to about 150 countries globally. Our movement to cloud was probably about three years ago when I saw some movement in the HPC world in that direction.”

Zawistowski and Scott Fadden (left), senior cloud HPC architect at Sycomp, spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Rebecca Knight at SC23, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Sycomp’s focus on simplicity, efficiency and adaptability to drive data management, storage and AI integration. (* Disclosure below.)

Solving the data silo problem for companies

For companies leveraging high-performance computing, a key pain point is the existence of data in disparate silos. Thus, there’s an equal need for data to be in the right place at the right time for optimal job execution. Sycomp simplifies this process through a managed service that removes complexity, allowing clients to focus on their core business functions rather than wrestling with data logistics, according to Fadden.

“We tried to do two things with this: We tried to make it easy to deploy in a cloud and also tie directly into existing storage,” he explained. “You’re not moving data around; you’re not having to manually do any of that work. We tie it together by [automatically] moving the data where you need it.”

Underpinned by IBM Corp.’s storage chops, Sycomp’s storage approach provides companies with several benefits. The pre-configured, tuned and easily deployable nature of the solution addresses a significant challenge in HPC storage, which is rapid setup and optimization. It not only ensures the efficient deployment of petabytes of data, but also manages ongoing upgrades, maintenance and support as a part of its comprehensive service, Fadden added.
