Unlocking the power of data: Kalray’s collaborations are redefining data management
With artificial intelligence technologies requiring more data at a faster rate, the world of data management is growing increasingly complex. Kalray S.A. is offering one solution.
“The DNA of the company is semiconductor and … the media entertainment space,” said Eric Baissus (pictured), chief executive officer at Kalray. “Our secret sauce is really to manage workflow in [a] very efficient way.”
Baissus spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Lisa Martin at SC23, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Kalray’s partnership with Dell Technologies Inc. and the innovations surrounding data management. (* Disclosure below.)
Smoother and cheaper orchestration
Kalray is what Baissus calls a “pioneer in the data management space,” with a particular focus on managing high workloads for AI technology.
“We’ve got a unique orchestrator, well recognized in the industry, which will bring the performance you need from the beginning to the end,” said Baissus. Kalray began as a semiconductor company, designing a new data processing unit, but expanded into a data management platform.
The company focuses on managing customers’ workflows by orchestrating data so that it is in the right place at the right time. It uses a highly efficient parallel file system that allows the implementation of nonvolatile memory express quickly and cheaply.
“The beauty of working with Dell [is] they’ve got a great portfolio of storage solutions and … we add the data management part and also the very fast tier zero that you need to basically optimize and run more efficiently with all flows,” said Baissus.
The future of data management is not solely in the cloud or on-premises but will involve a more complex system, believes Baissus.
“You need to leverage cloud, you need to leverage on-premise, you need to manage your different sites,” he said. “You have no choice.”
One of Kalray’s collaborations with Dell and Nvidia Corporation is a system that can analyze data from moving trains and automatically detect issues, which Baissues sees as an example of innovative data management.
“It’s much more than just capacity,” said Baissus. “It’s about understanding your customer, understanding the problem of your customer and bringing a solution.”
