Collaboration for protection: WEDOS Internet’s impact on banks and governments

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. has many partnerships and collaborations with different technology companies in its ecosystem, showcasing a robust European-based community in hosting and security.

WEDOS Internet, a.s., a hosting provider, developed its own cybersecurity solutions due to the inefficiency of existing options, transitioning to using HPE hardware and global infrastructure, according to Vendula Králová (pictured), chief sales and marketing officer of WEDOS.

“We have the GreenLake corporation, so that’s where we started with HPE,” Králová said. “When we were founded, we started with a different company because at the time the servers for us weren’t that efficient and effective. In 2013, we tried the first servers and that’s when the cooperation started. They offered GreenLake, which was perfect for us because we’ve had free hands and we could’ve done what we wanted to.”

Králová spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rob Strechay and Rebecca Knight at the HPE Discover Barcelona event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the quality services that WEDOS offers at reasonable prices to a diverse customer base, including banks and governments. (* Disclosure below.)

Building a unique solution

Transitioning from hosting to cybersecurity was prompted by the need for a more effective solution to combat DDoS attacks, as previous methods were costly and ineffective, according to Králová.

“We faced the most terrible attack that we’ve ever faced, and they attacked every single IP address that we’ve had,” she added. “We still had to do something and half of the banks in the Czech Republic weren’t working, and everybody was angry because nothing was working.”

WEDOS developed its own cybersecurity software and used exceptional hardware from HPE to provide quality services at reasonable prices to all types of businesses, according to Králová. Companies can be part of our global infrastructure and use our services for free in exchange for space, connectivity and power, creating a win-win situation for everyone.

“It’s a win-win situation, from all sides,” she said. “We do white labeling. Right now I would say it’s not the biggest amount of customers that we are protecting. We’re hoping that people will understand the philosophy behind this whole service and what it is and they will try it. Everyone will be able to protect everyone.”
